at least 10 mins, holding the eye open.
Obtain medical attention.
First Aid – Skin Wash skin with water. Remove contaminated
clothing as washing proceeds. Obtain medical
attention if blistering or redness persists.
First Aid – Ingestion Never administer anything by mouth if a victim is
losing Conscious is unconscious or is convulsing.
Wash out mouth with water to dilute stomach
contents. Obtain medical attention urgently.
Advice to Physicians Immediate specialist medical attention is
recommended in all cases of over-exposure. In case
of eye contact, immediate referral for
an ophthalmological opinion is advised. Keep under
medical surveillance for 48 hours after exposure to
decomposition products. Monitor effects on CNS
function; support and treat.

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
Extinguishing Media Select extinguishing agent appropriate to other
materials involved. Firefighters should wear self-contained breathing apparatus, chemical goggles,
loose-fitting rubber or leather gloves, and a full
aluminized suit.
Special Hazards of Product This product may give rise to hazardous fumes in a
fire. Avoid formation of dust clouds.
Spillage’s Sweep or preferably vacuum up and collect in
suitable containers For recovery or disposal. Avoid
creating dust.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS Wear appropriate clothing. Wear respiratory
protection.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS Try to prevent the material from entering drains or
watercourses. Advise authorities if spillage has
entered the watercourse or sewer or has contaminated
soil or vegetation.
SPILLAGES Sweep or preferable vacuum up and collect in
suitable containers for recovery or disposal. Avoid
creating dust.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
HANDLING Use local exhaust ventilation. Avoid creating dust.
Avoid inhaling dust. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Emergency shower and eyewash
facilities should be readily available. Keep electrical
apparatus, in particular free of dust.
The STORAGE Storage area should be cool, dry. Avoid
accumulations of dust in bins or on equipment,
ledges, etc. Store in original containers.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
Occupational Exposure Standards
Cryolite UK EH40: OES 2.5mg/m³

ENGINEERING CONTROL MEASURES
Engineering methods to prevent or control exposure are preferred. Methods include process or
personnel enclosure, mechanical ventilation (dilution and local exhaust), and controls and work
practices that are not effective in preventing or controlling exposure, then suitable personal
protection equipment, which is known to perform satisfactorily, should be used. The use of basic
principles of industrial Hygiene will enable this material to be used safely. Administrative
controls and personal protective equipment may also be required. There should be local
procedures for the selection, training

DATASHEET

including SG Irons.
Hottopping for Irons exhibits the following characteristics:
* A controlled burning rate with optimum heat output.
* Good insulating properties.
* Free-flowing thus ensuring excellent coverage even on large risers.
* Low dust and fume emission
Application
Usage varies depending upon casting temperature and size however due to its high efficiency
and high heat output the user will normally experience a reduction in usage when compared to
normal exothermic materials.

DATASHEET

Hot topping for Non-Ferrous is an exothermic powder designed for use on all types of non
ferrous castings excluding O.F.H.C. Copper:
Hot topping for Non-Ferrous is a fast-firing high heat output “Hot Topping” powder specifically
designed to improve the feeding characteristics of feeding heads of aluminum and copper-based
alloy castings.
When the exothermic action of Hot topping is complete the burned-out material has high
insulation properties which aid in reducing heat losses by radiation and convection.
This double action of fast firing, high heat output, then insulation of the feed metal results in
greatly improved feeding of the casting.
Usage varies depending upon such parameters as casting temperature feeder size etc.
